There are treatment options for your eye allergy

Allergy and your irritated Eye

Eye irritation from your allergy is a common problem that I see every year. Flowers and other pollen emitting plants are filling the air we breath each spring and summer.  Here are some tips to help treat and ease some common symptoms:

  1. Minimize your contact with known allergy triggers: avoid going outside when it is windy, stay indoors mid-morning or early evening when pollen counts are at their peak and close your car windows while driving;
  2. Reduce itchy eye symptoms by applying a cold face cloth over closed eyes for 5-10 minutes;
  3. Lubricate your eyes with artificial tears as needed and try putting the drops in the fridge for a cool sensation;
  4. Switch to daily disposable contact lenses during allergy season as allergens like to stick to moist surfaces; and,
  5. Try not to rub or touch your eyes as this will worsen the symptoms.
