Paulino Spectacles
The brands we showcase at our optical, like Paulino Spectacles reflect who we are. Family owned, quality, small scale, unique and inspired by travel. Ramiro Paulino is the owner, designer and third generation eyewear family member who is committed to fine craftsmanship and style. The brand had its start in the 1930’s with Bernardo Paulino Pereira, opening his first optical store in Santarem, Portugal. Ramiro tells us when he remembered growing up in the shop and making toys out of the materials he found lying around the work bench. He eventually learned his father’s techniques, secrets and acquired his passion for the craft.

Handmade in Portugal frames
Craftsmanship, Inspiration and Design
Producing these timeless frames begin with an idea that is captured on paper, drawn over and over to perfect every curve and detail to ensure frame comfort and style. The handmade process of these pieces only use the best of Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. Each finished frame has a beautiful smooth polish and are inspected to assure only the highest standards of perfection. I respect Ramiro’s keen eye of architecture and love of Portuguese buildings and his ability to combine classic and vintage eye wear shapes in his design interpretations. The results speak for themselves, when wearing and seeing these eye-catching curves and edges of his spectacles.

The Connection
Unique to this brand, is the personal touch Ramiro connects to each model. He is able to pair the places or people that have made an impact in his life in the esthetic of each frame. In the “Nazare” frame, inspired from his memory of going to the beach on Sunday’s with his family as a boy, we see his easy relaxed take on the wayfarer style frame that comes in 4 different colour combinations both in gloss and matte finishes. The strong, playful and feminine looks of the Teresa and Sara frames are an uncanny match to his sisters’ personalities and also come in 4 different colour combinations and finishes.
Personally, I love my Filipa sunglasses, I can wear it with a sweater or cardigan for an easy vintage feel or a cute leather jacket for an edgier, street look. I’m dying to wear my Filipa sunglasses in public once this home isolation is over! For now, you’ll have to see me wear them at @nvmyeyes. And I would agree, as this piece evokes a vintage Hollywood golden era look but with modern sophistication. From a style perspective, these specs have an endless range and offers a bolder statement. I can pair all of my vintage or modern outfits with any of these treasures, it all works.
